Prenot@mi is an online booking tool centrally managed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Prenot@mi allows you to register on the platform, choose the service you need and book an appointment. Once you are a registered user, you can manage your appointment, book another, cancel the existing ones if need be. For each service, applicants must book different appointments (as an example, one appointment for citizenship services will not be valid also to apply for a visa).

In order to use Prenot@mi, you must create your account first, by registering on the web portal. Once registration is completed, you will be able to access your account and book your slot.
Frequently Asked Questions – Prenot@mi
I CANNOT CREATE AN ACCOUNT ON PRENOT@MI, OR I CANNOT ACCESS WITH MY CURRENT CREDENTIALS, OR I CANNOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY CREDENTIALS
First of all, please, be aware that the application Prenot@mi is managed directly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome. For this reason, in many cases, any error messages must be reported and resolved centrally. For any problems related to application errors (problems with access, OTP reception or application error messages), please try the procedure again at a later time or on a later day and consult the user manual (Italian only).
The Prenot@mi booking system is linked to each Embassy/Consulate independently. If you’re already registered at another Embassy/Consulate’s Prenot@mi, you cannot register or book an appointment in our system (Consulate General of Italy in Toronto).
In this case, you need to log in to your already existing account and switch to the Consulate General in Toronto (choose the option “Change Embassy/Consulate” from the menu).
If the technical problem persists, you can contact toronto.helpdesk@esteri.it attaching a copy of an identity document. This email is available exclusively for reports of technical problems relating to Prenot@mi. Reservations for services CANNOT be requested at the email address mentioned. Since reports of technical problems may have to be sent directly to the central maintenance system (in Rome), communications sent to the Helpdesk address may not have a direct response.

I CANNOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT: EITHER ALL THE DATES ARE RED (UNAVAILABLE) OR, EVEN IF I CHOOSE A GREEN DATE, IT QUICKLY BECOMES UNAVAILABLE
Most likely, this is not a software issue. It simply indicates that all spots have been already reserved. Kindly, try again (due to the high demand, it may take several consecutive days/weeks) until you are successful. Recommended booking time is around 6.00pm Toronto local time.
If you can’t complete your reservation, but there are green /free) days, kindly note that booking must be completed quickly. The issue may occur when a user takes too long to select a slot and another user has therefore the possibility to book it.
I BOOKED AN APPOINTMENT BUT I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
When you book your appointment with Prenot@mi, in a window of time between the tenth and the third day before your appointment, the system will ask you to confirm your attendance. If you know in advance that you will not be able to attend the appointment, you must cancel it through Prenot@mi. In doing so, you will free your slot and this will help other users book their own appointment. If cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances on the very same day of the appointment and you are unable to cancel it on the system, you may write an email to the Consulate, using the email address of the relevant service (link Contact Us).
THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE SLOTS. WHAT CAN I DO?

In addition to that, you can activate the “waiting list” option. The waiting list function will inform you as a priority when a new slot becomes available. Kindly note that if you refuse to book the slot offered via the waiting list, you will be cancelled from it and will have to restart your booking procedure from the beginning.
The “waiting list” option can only work at its full potential if users who are unable to show up on the day of the appointment diligently cancel it from the system or inform the Consulate.
ELECTRONIC IDENTITY CARD (CIE)
As of 15 May 2024, this Consulate General receives applicants for Electronic Identity Cards.
Appointments must be booked through Prenot@mi.
The calendar has a visibility of 8 weeks and, each day, it scrolls forward by 24 hours, making an extra day visible to users.
It is recommended to log in on Thursdays or Fridays around 6 p.m. (Toronto time).
Appointments must be booked at least 15 days in advance to allow the consular operator to carry out preparatory operations for the appointment (e.g. if I connect on 31 May, I will only be able to book for dates on or after 14 June).
Please note that the CIE is not delivered on the day of the appointment. CIE is sent from Italy by registered mail, by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, to the address indicated by the applicant on the day of the appointment.

CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT – APPOINTMENTS
A new booking calendar for the year 2025 has been made available as of January 27, 2025 and it is open until December 31, 2025.
Please note that the appointments available on Prenot@mi are individual.
It is recommended to book ONLY after having collected all the necessary documentation, indicated above. The appointment is in fact for the purpose of submitting the application for recognition of Italian citizenship by descent; consultancy services are NOT provided.
It is recommended to cancel an appointment from the Prenot@mi system if, due to an unforeseen event, the user is no longer able to attend.
Appointments are made available automatically by the system on a daily basis, around 6 p.m. local time in Toronto.
If no appointments are available, it is possible to register in Waiting List. The user enrolled in Waiting List receives the first available appointment from the system, following a chronological priority.
A user can remain in the Waiting List for a maximum of 90 days. After the 90 days have elapsed, if the Waiting List has not been able to assign an appointment, the user must try again to book an appointment or re-register on the Waiting List.
The Waiting List has a limited number of places. If the WL is also fully booked, the system does not give the user the option to sign up and the user can only reconnect later and try to book again.
The Prenot@mi system sends an email requesting confirmation of the assigned appointment (either directly or via Waiting List).
If the user does not confirm the booking by clicking on the link in the email, the appointment is automatically cancelled.
It is recommended to constantly monitor the email address provided when registering for Prenot@mi, including the SPAM (or Junk Mail) folder.
Similarly, if you do not confirm an appointment assigned via Waiting List, you will lose the priority you have gained and will leave the Waiting List. In this case, you will have to start the booking process again.
