Living Image: an online event to celebrate the 20th Week of the Italian Language in the World

To celebrate the 20th Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Embassies of Italy and Switzerland in Canada, with the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, in collaboration with Jobel Art for Earth, present the following original multidisciplinary online event: LIVING IMAGE, animated readings, dance, music, interviews.

The Italian Language Week in the World is an event carried out every year by the cultural and diplomatic network on the third week of October. Focused on a specific theme, a vast cultural program is put in place with the purpose of promoting the Italian language. This year’s edition title is:

Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics

Although, due to the current circumstances, gatherings in person are not permitted, the arts have the power to overcome the barriers of a screen and reach our imagination.

The images will be the central theme for this event. The program will start with a selection from some of the most famous Italian comics authors that will be played by Jobel’s actors.

A specific segment will highlight graffiti’s art in which images and words will inspire an original street dance. The last piece is a tribute to the most famous and revolutionary Italian author for childhood literature: Gianni Rodari.

A musician will play, and illustrations will appear while two actors will read a selection from Rodari’s tales in English with short interludes in Italian.

The Italian language reveals all its evocative and communicative potential, and the visual arts lead imagination connecting with words uniquely.

Presented in Italian and English, the event will be live streamed on Zoom Friday, 23 October at 12:30 pm EDT.

Participation is free; however, registration is required.
