PRESS RELEASE

ITALEA at  “Taste of Little Italy” festival in Toronto

Mission to Canada for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs project that aims to promote “Roots Tourism” and strengthen ties with Italian communities abroad

Rome, June 12, 2024 – Everything is ready for “Taste of Little Italy“: over the weekend of June 15 and 16, College Street, the neighbourhood of Italians in Toronto, will host a large event with music, shows and food stands celebrating the large Italian community and the excellence of Made in Italy.

In the “Year of Italian Roots in the World” – dedicated to welcoming Italian descendants to their home territories – ITALEA will also have a space of its own at the Festival.

ITALEA is the programme to promote root-based tourism, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation within the PNRR project and funded by NextGenerationEU for the period 2022-2025.

ITALEA will participate in “Chin Picnic“: a series of events related to Italian traditions, culture and cuisine organised on the occasion of “Taste of Little Italy” by Chin Radio/TV International.

The Regions of Basilicata, Lazio, Molise and the Italea groups from Abruzzo, Calabria, Friuli and Molise will participate in the event in Canada.

The mission will kick off on Friday 14 June at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto where B2B meetings and the official presentation of the Italea project to the press are scheduled.

On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June, there will be an appointment at “Chin Picnic” where there will be moments dedicated to food and wine and musical activities. Various craft workshops, cooking shows, tastings, and musical performances will be held at the Italea and Regional stands. Information material will also be distributed.

THE ITALEA PAVILION PROGRAMME

There will be many appointments at Spazio Italea: on 15 June after the inauguration of the area, “Pizza Masterclass” is scheduled, an exciting journey into the world of pizza with the Pizzaioli school to learn about the pizza-making process.
Then an appointment promoted by the EvooSchool dedicated to the olive and olive oil sector with the presentation and tasting of olive oil and, finally, the first stage of the Tiramisù World Cup: the cooking competition dedicated to non-professionals who challenge each other to prepare their best Tiramisù.

On Sunday 16 June, on the other hand, there will be a second appointment with the Evooschool, space for music and traditions with dancer Lucia Scarabino and her Tarantella Experience. To conclude, the Tiramisù Masterclass and the Pizza Italea Trophy.
Folk group Zig-Zaghini from Molise Region and the Lazio group La Tosca Opera will also take the stage.
