As of 7 May 2024, the website of the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto has been enriched with a new assistance tool.

The virtual assistant (“chatbot”) of our website is now up and running. A “chatbot” is a program that simulates a chat conversation and that, through a pre-established path of questions and answers, will be able to guide users towards the information they need.

The “chatbot” will be able to answer a wide range of questions, in particular concerning consular services and visas.

To access the “chatbot”, simply click on the blue icon with two white speech bubbles on the homepage, in the bottom right-hand corner of the website. Such icon will accompany the user throughout their navigation on the site.

The application was presented on 8 February in Rome by the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Amb. Riccardo Guariglia, and then activated on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and on the websites of Italian diplomatic-consular offices, including the Consulate General in Toronto.

‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not only deal with foreign policy in the narrow sense. We provide a very wide range of services to users both at the Farnesina and in the more than 200 Italian diplomatic-consular offices around the world,” said Amb. Guariglia, who personally tested the application and recalled that “the MAECI is among the very first Italian administrations to equip itself with such a tool on a large scale, demonstrating the great attention paid to digital innovation and the quality of services rendered to users”.

Also present at the event on February 8 were the Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Alessandro De Pedys, and the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies, Luigi Maria Vignali, who emphasised the relevance of the tool in order to improve the quality of the services offered to users and Farnesina’s commitment to digital innovation.
