Citizenship by Descent. New Booking Calendar for the Year 2026

Citizenship Calendar 2026

The Consulate General of Italy in Toronto informs users that the 2026 calendar for booking appointments for citizenship by descent applications will be available on the Prenot@mi portal (link at the bottom of the page) starting February 12, 2026.

Prior to booking an appointment, please read carefully the information provided here: Citizenship – Consolato Generale d’Italia Toronto and here: Recognition of Italian citizenship by descent – Consolato Generale d’Italia Toronto

The subject of citizenship by descent has undergone significant changes in 2025, with the adoption of Legislative Decree 36/2025, converted with amendments by Law 74/2025. Therefore, users should check whether the new legislation has changed the possibility of applying for citizenship by descent.

Please note that the Consulate does NOT provide consultancy services and that, on the day of your appointment, you must present all required documentation, as indicated at the links above, to the consular officer. A fee of €600 is required for the examination and processing of applications for the recognition of Italian citizenship by descent for adults.
This fee is paid BEFORE the formal examination of the application at the counter and, regardless of whether the application is approved or denied, is NON-refundable.
It is NOT possible to apply for an Italian passport at the same time as the citizenship application.

The booking calendar (schedule) offers a limited number of appointments, based on the processing capacity of the Consulate General’s staff, in compliance with legal deadlines (currently, only one employee can be assigned to the service).

The booking calendar is open for a limited time (4 weeks), and on a scrolling basis. New appointments are made available around 6:00 PM, Toronto local time.
If you receive an automatic message indicating that there are no available appointments, this does not mean that the system is not working or that the calendar is fully booked until the end of the year. It simply means that there are no appointments available at the time and for the period displayed on the date you access the Prenot@mi portal.
You will need to try again later. Given the enormous pressure on the service and limited resources available, it may be necessary to make repeated attempts.

Please note that requests to reacquire Italian citizenship follow a different procedure and do not require booking an appointment on the Prenot@mi portal. For information: Reacquisition of citizenship – Consolato Generale d’Italia Toronto
