As of 15 July 2024, Italian citizens regularly registered in AIRE will be able to apply for an Italian tax code for themselves and for any minor children (who are also Italians registered in AIRE and listed in the parent’s household) through the FAST-IT portal.
The applicant (Italian national registered with AIRE), if already correctly registered and “associated” on FAST-IT, after accessing the portal will find the box “Attribuzione Codice Fiscale” in the section “Consular and AIRE Registry”. From there, he/she can start the Tax Code request, which will be received and managed by the consular operator.
If the request is successful, once the processing of the file has been completed, the applicant will be able to autonomously download Tax Code Certificates for himself/herself and for any minor children for whom he/she has requested it, simply by accessing their FAST-IT account.
The function of requesting a tax code through FAST-IT is not available for Italian citizens not registered with AIRE, nor for foreign citizens, who must continue to follow the ordinary procedure for requesting an Italian tax code, described here.
PLEASE, NOTE: Italian nationals who have been allocated a tax code using the procedure described above, through the FAST-IT portal, may encounter difficulties when applying for SPID (Sistema Pubblico d’Identità Digitale – Public Digital Identity System) through one of the approved providers. Applicants may point out to the provider, when verifying his or her tax code for obtaining the SPID, that the AGID (Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale) issued a special notice on 30 April 2024 according to which the providers authorised to issue the SPID are required to recognise as valid and authentic the certificates of issue issued by Consular Offices abroad. Said notice is available on the FATS-IT homepage, and can also be found at the following link: spid-avviso-n7v2-rilascio-identita-italiani-stabiliti-estero_f.pdf (agid.gov.it)
