The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, attended the annual scholarship award ceremony organized by CIBPA (Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association) at the historic Distillery District in Toronto on Sunday, July 21.

Attending were Bob Sacco, President of the CIBPA Education Foundation, along with key association leaders; Secretary of State for Labour John Zerucelli; Anna Roberts, MP for King-Vaughan; and Flavio Volpe, CEO of APMA (Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association).

During the ceremony, a donation of $100,000 Canadian dollars was presented to TMU’s Lincoln Alexander Law School in honor of Sergio Marchionne. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s contribution to the new “Ente Promotore” YCDSB ItaliaLinguaCultura sponsorship organization was also recognized, for a project promoting Italian language and culture in York District Catholic schools. Four Italian-Canadian students returning from a study trip to Lazio organized by NIAF were also celebrated and had the chance to share their experience.

The previous day, Ambassador Cattaneo, along with Senator Toni Varone, had attended a ceremony organized by CIBPA at Beechwood Cemetery to pay tribute to Sergio Marchionne, who is remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him and by the Italian-Canadian community in Toronto.
