\nDo I need a Schengen Visa for tourism?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/summary>\n

To find out whether you need a Schengen Visa<\/strong>, visit the web portal “Il Visto per l’Italia<\/a>“<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you are a Canadian citizen<\/strong>, kindly note that Canadian citizens<\/strong>, and nationals of some other Countries,\u00a0are EXEMPT<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0from the visa requirement for visits\u00a0up to a maximum of 90 days in six months<\/strong> for the following reasons: tourism,\u00a0mission, business, invitation, participation in sports events and study<\/strong>.
\nThe EU Home and Migration Affairs website<\/strong> has a common list of countries whose citizens must have a visa<\/strong> when crossing the external borders and those whose nationals are exempt from that requirement.\u00a0Click here to check the list<\/a><\/p>\n

Citizens of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and the Ukraine are exempt from visa obligation only if the passport contains biometric data.<\/strong> All passports with biometric data show a special symbol (e-passport) at the front cover of the passport.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n

\nHow to apply<\/span><\/strong><\/summary>\n

You MUST<\/strong> book an appointment through the web portal Prenot@mi<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you cannot find any available time slots on Prenot@mi, we suggest that you log in after a few hours or in one or two days and, in general, we advise to check regularly (particularly around 6pm Toronto time) for available slots as the situation my change quickly.

\n
\nDocuments required to apply<\/strong><\/span><\/summary>\n
    \n
  1. Proof of residence\u00a0within the Toronto consular jurisdiction area<\/a><\/strong>: domestic utility bill or driver\u2019s license (original and a photocopy).<\/li>\n
  2. For non-Canadians, proof of legal residence in Canada<\/strong>: Canadian permanent residence card or visa valid for at least three months after the date of re-entry (original and a photocopy).<\/li>\n
  3. For travelers not returning to Canada after leaving the Schengen area<\/strong>:\u00a0relevant visa or travel document authorizing entry into the Country of destination, and a photocopy.<\/li>\n
  4. Electronic Schengen Visa application form<\/strong><\/a> carefully and correctly completed and signed. Please ensure that you leave no blank spaces. If a question does not apply to you, enter N\/A (not applicable). Be sure to print the form in high resolution.<\/li>\n
  5. One recent passport-size colour photo<\/strong> (must have been taken less than six months before the application), size 35mm x 40mm, full-face and light coloured background. The face must be correctly centered and must be seen from a front view, with both sides visible. Styled poses (looking over one shoulder, head bowed etc.) are not allowed. The head must be free of all headgear, no hats, scarves, headbands or other decorative objects.<\/li>\n
  6. Your passport, which must be valid for at least 3 months after the visa expiry date<\/strong>, as well as photocopies of the first 2 pages and of visas previously issued, if any. Furthermore, there must be at least two blank pages in the passport.<\/li>\n
  7. Prepaid Xpresspost post envelope (or Courier service prepaid and self addressed envelope)<\/strong> with your address already filled (TO) and the Address of the consulate as sender (FROM), and a photocopy of that very envelope, to return your passport<\/strong>. \u00a0Please be aware that the Consulate does not take responsibility for applications, passports or money order lost by the postal\/courier services.<\/li>\n
  8. The visa fee paid in Canadian dollars<\/strong>. Visa fees can be paid at the counter, preferably by Canadian debit card (credit cards or other digital payments cannot be accepted) or alternatively in cash or through money order\/bank draft made out to the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto (Canadian dollars only). Because of the fluctuation of the exchange rate,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0fees are subject to change. <\/span><\/span>Please refer to the dedicated page<\/a> <\/strong>on this website.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  9. A copy of your<\/span><\/span> round trip flight reservation<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> or ticket and full itinerary<\/strong>. Buying your ticket in <\/span><\/span>advance does not guarantee that a visa will be issued.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Hotel booking<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span> for each day of your stay in the Schengen area, stating the number of reservation,<\/span><\/span> name of the applicant, address, and telephone number of the hotel,<\/span><\/span> OR<\/span><\/span> letter of invitation <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>(declaration of hospitality),<\/span> signed by the\u00a0 invi<\/span>ting person, plus a copy of his\/her ID (<\/span>in case of<\/span> person without Italian citizenship, copy of his\/her Italian permanent residence permit<\/span>,<\/span> “Permesso<\/span> di soggiorno\u2019”)<\/span>.
    I<\/span>f you are a member of a group<\/span>: a letter from the travel agency mentioning the same information as<\/span> for individuals.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  11. <\/span>Documentation in relation to your social and professional status<\/span><\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong> if dependent worker, letter of <\/span><\/span>employment; for students, University\/school<\/span><\/span> confirmation of enrollment for the current year in<\/span><\/span> original; if self<\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span>employed, business bank statements (last 3 months), copies of business income<\/span><\/span> taxes, certificates of incorporation; if retired, copy of your retirement compensation from social <\/span><\/span>security.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  12. Proof of financial means of support<\/strong><\/span><\/span> (as per Ministry of Interior Directive 1.3.2000<\/span><\/span> DIRETTIVA <\/span><\/span>1\u00b0 marzo 2000<\/span><\/span>): last three months bank statements clear<\/span>ly indicating the name of the holder and<\/span><\/span> salary slips if applicable. <\/span><\/span>If you are financiall<\/span><\/span>y dependent on a family member<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> you must provide an <\/span><\/span>Affidavit of financial <\/span><\/span>support <\/span><\/span><\/strong>(templates can be found here<\/a><\/strong>)<\/span><\/span>, together with a copy of his\/her picture I<\/span>D and his\/her last three months<\/span> bank statements.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  13. A<\/span><\/span> travel medical insurance<\/strong> policy<\/span><\/span> valid throughout the Schengen area. Please unde<\/span><\/span>rline or <\/span><\/span>highlight: your name, the medical emergency expenses coverage (minimum \u20ac 30,000) including<\/span><\/span> hospital care and repatriation for medical reasons or in case of death.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/details>\n

    \nPlease, be aware<\/strong>: the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto does not rely on any outsourcing agency for visa services.
