Day of Italian Research in the World | Fourth Edition Thursday, April 15

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto and the Consulate General of Italy
in Toronto celebrate the Day of Italian Research in the World with two events,
a live webinar and a video (see details for each below).

This day is promoted every year by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and International Cooperation through its network of diplomatic offices
throughout the globe, highlighting the contribution of Italian researchers in
the fields of science, technology and innovation.

PROF. GIANLUIGI BISLERI:

Professor Gianluigi Bisleri is a cardiovascular surgeon at St. Michael’s
Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University
of Toronto, as well as an Investigator at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute.

Prof. Bisleri graduated from the University of Brescia Medical School in
Brescia, Italy, summa cum laude in 2001. Following a residency in cardiac
surgery at the University of Padua, he completed a research fellowship in
arrhythmia and minimally invasive/robotic surgery at the Presbyterian Medical
Center, New York, and clinical fellowships in the Silesian Centre for Heart
Diseases in Zabrze, Poland, and at the Essex Cardiothoracic Center, Basildon
University Hospital, Basildon, U.K.

 

From 2006 to 2016 he was a cardiac surgeon at the University of Brescia
Medical School, where he became first assistant and then Associate Professor of
Surgery as well as Co-Director of the Arrhythmia Program and Director of the
Aortic Surgery Program.

From 2016 to 2020, Prof. Bisleri joined Queen’s University and the Kingston
Health Sciences Centre, where his expertise contributed to the development of
novel approaches for minimally invasive cardiac surgery and the treatment of
cardiac arrhythmia.

ageing and longevity, with a focus on Mediterranean lifestyles and dietary
habits and the effects they and other components have a decisive effect on the
ability to live longer, in good health.
