Canada: The International Week of Italian Cuisine begins! The Embassy of Italy honours Artusi and partners with a film festival

Canada: The International Week of Italian Cuisine begins!

The fifth edition of the International Week of Italian Cuisine is underway! This yearly event celebrates Italy’s gastronomy, culinary heritage, and quality ingredients with a rich program of events extending into December.

As part of its exploration of this year’s theme Saperi e Sapori delle Terre Italiane, a 200 anni dalla nascita di Pellegrino Artusi (“The Ways and Flavours of the Lands of Italy, 200 Years After the Birth of Pellegrino Artusi”) the Italian diplomatic and consular network in Canada, together with the Italian Trade Agency, will highlight some of the most well known and appreciated IGP products and, in cooperation with Casa Artusi, will present a series of video recipe classes illustrating the history and the preparation of typical dishes in Italian regional home cooking.

On November 26, as part of an initiative organized with ENIT, the Italian National Tourist Board, world-famous Italian-Canadian chef David Rocco will host a “Virtual Pranzo” live on Facebook.

“Italian agri-food products continue to be extremely popular in Canada” underlined Ambassador Claudio Taffuri. “It was in fact our agri-food exports that helped us weather the economic challenges of the pandemic, in some cases performing better than they did last year. Events such at the International Week of Italian Cuisine are an ideal vehicle to promote both our culture and our products. This is also why we have decided to expand this theme in association with one of the most renowned Italian film festivals in North America — the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF,) with a dedicated following both inside and outside the Italian-Canadian community.

The International Week of Italian Cuisine will be part of the ICFF At Home, which, in addition to providing a wealth of information on “Made in Italy” throughout its programming, is dedicating December 4th to a special event during which, in partnership with Eataly, it will present not only the Casa Artusi video recipes, but the documentary “A Fish Out of Water” (with Michelin-starred chef Lorenzo Cogo) and the short film “The True Story of Tiramisù.”
